ACTIVITIES & ACHIEVEMENTS

The Nova Scotia League for Equal Opportunities (NSLEO) is Nova Scotia's only cross-disability policy research and public education organization comprised of individuals who have disabilities.
-
NSLEO's present mandate is to advocate for legislative changes with regards to these many issues and where applicable to embark on advocacy to effect legislative changes and to assist the individual.

NSLEO organizes and hosts regular information sessions which are cross-disability in scope and which promote our self-help image in that individuals with disabilities learn ways to represent themselves and their concerns through personal improvements.

NSLEO contributes to a variety of governmental and independent task forces, working committees, advisory committees and research bodies.

NSLEO provides education with both the political and private sector in the pursuit of equality for persons with disabilities in Nova Scotia.

NSLEO was instrumental in having the Nova Scotia Human Rights Act amended to include the mentally disabled.

NSLEO has conducted research investigating issues of accessibility, technical aids, the building code and attendant care provisions, province wide.

NSLEO affiliates have produced and distributed guides
to publicly accessible
businesses, buildings, shopping malls and complexes in
their home municipalities. -
NSLEO acts as a resource to both Federal and Provincial Governments, organizations of persons with disabilities and the private sector on the implementation of programs and services which affect the citizens throughout Nova Scotia who have disabilities.
